After breakfast the guests and get off the ship and take one of our recommended shore excursions or just walk around the pier. Sitka truly offers the best of Alaska. Its small-town appeal stems from a unique blend of Russian, Tlingit and American history. Its snow-capped peaks and volcanic Mount Edgecumbe pose among the state’s most postcard-worthy scenes. And its rare wildlife astounds, from Saint Lazaria Island’s orange-beaked puffins to Alaska Maritime Refuge’s 40 million seabirds. This is off-the-path Alaska, where you can kayak Sitka Sound alongside swimming sea otters or fly-fish for the world’s biggest halibut.
Whether it’s hiking Baranof Island trails or listening to tribal stories passed down for generations, in Sitka the midnight sun never sets on adventure. Explore Sitka National Historical Park to trace the town’s early beginnings and native heritage. See indigenous artifacts, watch a documentary film, and walk the mile-long Totem Trail. Then view creative pieces by local Tlingit, Haida and Tsimshian artists at the Sitka Cultural Center. Learn about Sitka’s Russian influence on a walk to St. Michael’s Cathedral, one of the few remaining Russian Orthodox churches in Alaska. Check out the Russian Bishop’s House and watch New Archangel Dancers perform traditional choreography. Then stand atop Castle Hill, where the first American flag flew over Alaska in 1867.

Juneau is the capital of Alaska and one of the most famous cities to see Salmons and king crabs. The ship reaches the port in the afternoon so our guests have ample of time to walk around the ship, participate in a trivia or a treasure hunt that is arranged for you by the onboard staff. When the ship docks in Alaska we recommend you take one of the shore excursions from the ship, as they say no roads lead to Juneau, which gives the Alaskan capital a misty inscrutability. You need to come by air or water, but when you arrive, the place will delight you with its bounty of water, forests, and mountains. Squeezed between the Gastineau Channel and Coast Mountains, Juneau offers a lot of variety in close proximity. The massive Mendenhall Glacier and the immense Juneau Icefields are at its back door. The vast Tongass National Forest stretches away to the northeast. You can shop downtown or get out and kayak, dogsled, raft, hike, whale watch, flightsee or fish. The adventures are as bountiful as the daylight. The guests can come back on the ship by 9:00 pm hence have ample of time to walk around the city, buy souvenirs or simply sit at an open bar and enjoy the Alaskan Beer.

If you’re looking for an authentic taste of wild, rugged adventure, a cruise to Haines, Alaska is just the ticket. Located less than 70 miles north of Juneau, along the continent’s longest and deepest fjord, Haines offers endless outdoor activities for intrepid explorers. Hike deep into misty coastal rainforests and ancient spruce woodlands. Set out on a rafting adventure along the rivers that thread the Chilkat Bald Eagle Preserve. Learn about the gold rush era at Fort William H. Seward. And discover the area’s rich cultural heritage at museums dedicated to the Native Tlingit People. Calling all birdwatchers — Haines has more than 260 species of birds and lots of eagles, so bring your binoculars. You’ll find lots of trails to choose from here in Haines. One of the most popular is the Battery Trail Hike, which takes you all the way to the beach. If you’re a veteran hiker, try one of Haines’s alpine trails, like Mt. Riley and Mt. Ripinski. They’re steep, but offer gorgeous views. A short drive north of Haines you’ll find Kroschel Wildlife Center, one of the best spots in the area to mingle with local critters. Join a wildlife expedition for an up-close look at grizzlies, wolves, reindeer and more, or set out on a photography tour across more than 600 yards of maintained trail.

On the third day the ship sails though the most popular spot of Alaska that is the Tracy Arm Fjords. The ship takes a halt for half an hour or so for you to capture those melting Glaciers in your camera and camcorder. Do not forget to take a camera with a good zoom and clarity as the melting of ice is a natural phenomenon and you don’t want to mis-out n anything. Nestled between 3,000-foot high granite walls, the narrow, twisting slice of ocean called Tracy Arm Fjord weaves through the Tongass National Forest for roughly 35 miles. The shoreline is spotted with waterfalls created by melting snow caps and trees sprouting at odd angles from rocky outcroppings. The dramatic Sawyer Glaciers at the end of Tracy Arm are framed by mountains on either side, and are often bathed in a light mist that amplifies the blue hue of the ice. The glaciers also are home to black and brown bears, wolves, deer and moose, and seals and whales make their home in the fjord’s icy waters.
